Mother's Day card for my Senior Thesis. And because I have a huge love for horses, especially grullas, I couldn't resist. ;) I haven't done any horse pieces since sophomore year, so it felt nice to do a new one! And they're still just as challenging as ever.

But anyway, this one is dedicated to my mom, Gail Hoffman, with much love. <3

And after all that you still manage to make it pretty damn realistic, even with the challenge factor. :) I can't draw horses worth crap! But I swear, I love your horse pieces as much as your wolves. ^_^

omg this is so cute and so nicely done too! I really like the lighting and how it makes the foal glow. Fantastic job!

Hehe, thank ya! Horses are, in my opinion, one of the toughest animals to draw. I was referencing like crazy for thsi one! XD
:iconsweethusky:
Oh, I know. The legs, especially. I'm attempting to make a miniature horse sculpture for my friend... let's just say it's not going over well. :D

But for that work, it was worth it it seems. :)

This is a truly great piece. I especially like the lighting in this one. But may I ask where you are graduating from and tell me a bit about senior thesis? I've been hearing about this project, and I would like to know what it's all about.

Anyhoo--fantastic work, keep it up!

Hey Sage! I graduated from Moore College of Art and Design just this past Monday! It's an all women's art school in Center City Philadelphia. As for my thesis, we had to do 4 pieces that were related...and we could do whatever we wanted. So what mine is is really a set of greeting cards. I actually had these pieces printed in context (meaning I had text on the front, as well as actual greetings/sayings on the inside of the cards), as if they were really being made for a card company, like Hallmark or American Greetings or something. I wanted to make them as if they were a set, so all the animals I chose were, specifically, North American wildlife. I had a tough time choosing whether I wanted to do domestic animals (like dogs and cats) or wildlife, but chose the latter. Illustration (my major!) is all about gearing things towards the market, so I kept that in mind when doing my thesis work...but also kept it within my interests, as I'd love to do anything with animals in my future artistic careers.

So yeah, that's pretty much the gist! if there's anything else ya wanna know, feel free to ask! :D
